The Atelier

Mossa & Kristall creates one-of-a-kind jewellery and botanical oils.

The atelier's roots lie in the forests of Sweden. After losing her father at a young age, founder and artist Liselott Montesano was raised by her grandparents on a farm in a small village. Much of her childhood was spent among the trees: exploring, skiing, and making the long journey to and from school. The forest became her refuge, and nature her first teacher, imparting lessons of growth and decay, texture and time, and the quiet intelligence of all living things.

Carrying the forest with her, she went on to train as a nurse, drawn to the work of healing and to an intimate understanding of the body. After relocating to Canada, she spent four decades in fashion and design, refining an eye for material, proportion, and the delicate architecture of adornment. In time, this sensibility found a more personal expression in jewellery, threading found treasures together with the art of crochet, passed from her grandmother's hands to hers through long Scandinavian winters. From this inheritance, Mossa & Kristall began to bloom.

Each piece of jewellery is made by hand, guided by the character of its materials. Stones, pearls, metal, thread, and found elements are woven together as singular works, with their irregularities and histories intact.

The botanical oils grew from her study of Eastern philosophy and herbal tradition, and from the same wish that first led her to nursing: to care for people, and to restore their natural beauty in harmony with the plant world.

Mossa & Kristall is Swedish for moss and crystal. The name holds a duality: the organic and the refined, the yielding and the precise. Within this tension, the work finds its clarity: form shaped through use, beauty revealed through contact.
